Recap: 4th Annual Fort Worth Investment Symposium
The 2024 Fort Worth Investment Symposium convened an exceptional group of thought-leaders in finance, investment, real estate, energy, and business. Held at The Bowie House, an Auberge Resort, in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, last year’s event fostered meaningful dialogue about the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of the financial landscape.
The symposium featured a thoughtfully curated agenda focusing on topical investment themes across various sectors:
Energy Sector Dynamics: An engaging 1:1 discussion featuring Bryan Sheffield, founder and Managing Partner of Formentera Partners, in conversation with Chris Powers, founder and CEO of Fort Capital. This engaging panel set the stage for the symposium by delving into the evolving dynamics of the oil and gas industry. Sheffield underscored the complexities of navigating the energy sector and how leaders like himself are adapting to challenges and seizing opportunities in a rapidly changing landscape.
The “Y’all Street” Effect: An insightful panel discussion moderated by Carlo Capua, Chief of Strategy and Innovation for the City of Fort Worth. Joined by leaders from prominent firms including Fortress Investment Group, Broadwing Capital, and Citation Capital, the panel explored the factors fueling Dallas-Fort Worth’s growth as a leading financial hub, the opportunities it creates, and the region’s distinctive appeal for businesses and investors.
Tail Risk Hedging: This captivating session, expertly moderated by True North’s Managing Director of Family Wealth, Melissa Lucas, showcased Mark Spitznagel, founder of Universa, as he shared insights into the necessity and philosophy of tail risk hedging in today’s financial markets. Known for his unconventional yet effective strategies, Spitznagel discussed how Universa approaches risk mitigation, focusing on high-impact, low-probability events and the implications of compounding returns.
Real Estate Insights: A dynamic panel discussion on real estate investing, moderated by Eliot Bencuya, Co-founder of Streitwise and Tryperion Partners, featuring industry leaders Max Lamont of Montgomery Street Partners, Chris Powers of Fort Capital, and Zach Wiegert of Goldenrod Companies. The panelists provided a nuanced perspective on navigating today’s complex market dynamics. Through disciplined acquisitions, strategic operational shifts, and a focus on non-traditional opportunities, the speakers highlighted pathways to resilience and growth in an evolving real estate landscape.
The Fort Worth Investment Symposium continues to distinguish itself as a forum for candid, deep-dive discussions on topical investment themes. The event fosters an environment of trust and authenticity, enabling speakers to share unfiltered insights. We are grateful for this year’s participants and look forward to another successful symposium in 2025.
