Matt Peden joined True North Advisors in August 2023 as Senior Director of Investments. He has over three decades of experience in the investment industry, including senior leadership positions in portfolio management and research covering both public and private markets. Matt’s current responsibilities at the firm are primarily targeted towards public and traditional markets. Matt serves as a voting member of the firm’s Investment Committee.
Matt joined True North Advisors from American Beacon Advisors where he served as Director of Investments. In his role, Matt was involved in the evaluation, oversight, and management of investment programs for American Beacon’s largest funds and contributed to the development of new products and investment strategies for clients. He also served as a voting member of the Private Markets Investment Committee, responsible for the approval of investments for a large corporate defined benefit fund client.
During his long tenure at GuideStone Financial Resources, Matt elevated through the firm to the position of Chief Investment Officer, serving in that position for six years. He was responsible for developing and directing all aspects of the investment management program with approximately $18 billion* in assets under management. Under his leadership, GuideStone Funds won the national, prestigious mutual fund award, the Lipper Award for Best Overall Small Fund Family (U.S.). GuideStone Funds is the only socially screened mutual fund family to win the award in its history. Matt has also held an investment banking position at Southwest Securities, Inc. (now Hilltop Securities, Inc.) and an analyst position at First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo & Co.). He has also been quoted in the media on multiple occasions, including the Wall Street Journal.
The firm’s mission is Fulfilling LivesTM, and Matt supports this by his dedicated focus on the importance of being a fiduciary of clients’ assets, always putting the client first in all aspects of the investment management decision making process. Matt also has a passion for and is involved in mentoring college students entering the investment management industry.
Matt earned an MBA from Texas Christian University with honors (Beta Gamma Sigma) and a BBA in Finance from the University of North Texas. He is a CFA® charterholder. Matt is a current and a past member of multiple boards and advisory boards and was a past president and a recipient of the distinguished member of the year award for the CFA Society of DFW. His hobbies include running, golf, church activities, and spending time with his wife and son.
